BLPª II, BLP IIS and BLP Elite Release Notes 2.0 October 25, 1993 The hardware and software of your BLP II, BLP IIS or BLP Elite have been thoroughly tested during their development. These Release Notes provide you with up-to-date information on the BLP II, BLP IIS or BLP Elite that might not have been available when the manual went to press. ************************************************************ Information on the PostScript® interpreter The BLP II, BLP IIS and BLP Elite contain version 52.3 of the Adobe PostScript® language interpreter. Among its features is the Adobe Type Manager (ATM) outline font rendering system, which provides extremely fast generation of outline font characters for high-quality text even at very small sizes. ************************************************************ Information on LaserWriter 7.1.2 LaserWriter 7.1.2 features extensions to assist printing from applications that use color, more effective use of the SCSI hard disk, support for TrueType fonts, and custom paper sizes to match the printable area of the BLP II or BLP IIS. The Laser Prep 7.1.2 is required only if using your BLP II, BLP IIS or BLP Elite in conjunction with an AppleShare Printer Server. Please see the TeachText file "About Laser Prep" for further information. The custom paper sizes offered in the scrolling menu of the Page Setup dialog match the printable area offered by the BLP II, BLP IIS and BLP Elite for edge to edge printing on letter, legal, A4, and B5 paper, and offer a larger print area than the enlarged print area option. If your text or graphics are being clipped on one or more edges of the page, and selecting the enlarged print area option does not resolve the problem, try using a custom paper size. Please note that you do not need to be running System 7.x to use LaserWriter 7.1.2. LaserWriter 7.1.2 is compatible with older versions of System software in addition to System 7.x. If you choose to use LaserWriter 7.1.2 in conjunction with System software prior to 7.0, you must also install "Backgrounder" if you plan on using background printing. When using System 7.x, "Backgrounder" is not required. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL USERS OF A PARTICULAR PRINTER USE THE SAME VERSION OF THE LASERWRITER FILE IN ORDER TO AVOID FREQUENT RE-INITIALIZATION OF THE PRINTER. ************************************************************ Information on QuickEnvelope QuickEnvelope is a desk accessory for composing and printing envelopes from inside most applications on your Macintosh®. While GCC's laser printers are designed to print on a variety of paper stocks, some types produce better results than others. This is especially true for envelopes. Generally speaking, envelopes which meet the following requirements are preferred: Smooth (but not slick) surface Rectangular flap Low cotton content Lighter weight stock (20-24 lbs.) In addition, the following tips will also help to produce better results: Use a lighter weight font Indent the return address If you have purchased either the Envelope tray or Universal tray, make sure the paper handling menu in the front panel display is set to letter size paper. The alternate front panel display settings are for specialized use only. ************************************************************ Information on Application Utility files The files located in the Applications Utility folder are used by certain applications to obtain information on machine-dependent features of your BLP II, BLP IIS or BLP Elite, such as supported paper sizes, available fonts, and error messages. Please refer to the documentation included with your software application for further information regarding these files. ************************************************************ GCC Technologies is a registered trademark of GCC Technologies, Inc.
