SelectPress Errors
Note: if any of the following error codes appear on your SelectPress front panel, you should
immediately take the printer to an authorized GCC Service Center for repair.
- Service Error 1-5: - Failed to access the internal drive. Check connections and
replace drive or SCSI cable as needed.
- ROM error 0x04: - Check the seating of the ROM. If it is correctly in place,
replace the SelectPress controller board.
- CPU error: 0x08, 0x09, 0x0A, 0x0B, 0x0C, 0x0D: - One of the CPU tests failed.
Replace the SelectPress controller board.
- RAM error: 0x10, 0x11, 0x12, 0x13, 0x14, 0x15, 0x16: - One of the internal RAM
tests failed. Check the seating of the RAM if the printer has 16 mb of memory. If the printer
has only 8 mb of RAM, and additional RAM is OK, replace the SelectPress controller
board.
- SCSI error: 0x20 - The SCSI test failed. Check the drive connections or replace
the SelectPress controller board.
- VIA error: 0x28; SCC error: 0x30; FPGA error: 0x38 - Replace the SelectPress
controller board.
- Service Error 11 - Operation mode setting error: The print engine is not able to
initialize properly. This is caused by a problem with the engine board or laser unit. Refer
to the "Initialization Problems" section of the SelectPress Service documentation.
- Service Error 12 - EEPROM error: Information is not reading properly from the
engine board. Replace and verify repair.
- Service Error 13 - Auto toner sensor error: Values returned by the sensor are not
within correct parameters. Clean the Auto Toner sensor. If the cleaning does not clear the
error, replace the Auto Toner sensor.
- Service Error 14 - Main motor error: Check all areas of the paper path for
obstruction to the operation of the rollers. Remove the left side covers to inspect the
contacts to the main motors. If no problems are found, replace the main motor.
- Service Error 15 - Optics Error: Replace the laser (optical) unit.
- Service Error 16 - Fixer unit error: The fusing unit is not operating in the
correct temperature range. Check all connections to the fusing unit. Check the fuser lamp and
replace if necessary.
- Service Error 17 - Engine Communications error: The SelectPress controller is
experiencing problems communicating with the print engine. In each instance that we have seen
this problem, it has been traced to bad contact between the SelectPress controller and the
print engine interface. Currently, this problem will cause the printer to behave
erratically.
- Service Error 18 - No engine power: The SelectPress controller cannot detect the
signal from the print engine that indicates that power is coming into the printer. We have
not seen this problem per se, but we expect it might occur if there is a bad contact with the
print engine interface, or if the engine is not receiving any power.
Errors 11 thru 16 are reported by the print engine to the SelectPress controller. Once the
engine detects an error, it will continue to report the error on the LCD display until power is
cycled. Errors 17 and 18 are detected directly by the SelectPress controller. Although it may
be possible that the printer may recover from an error condition, a power cycle is recommended
after one has occured.
