Setting up the GCC Elite 21 with Adobe PageMaker and others

Most newer applications are set up to access the PostScript Printer Description (PPD) files for the printer directly through the system and do not require additional configuration. A handful of applications, however, may require you to manually install the PPD file to a different location on your hard drive in order for the application to properly recognize the printer's features.

The PPD file for the Elite 21 Series is a file called 'gce21_1.ppd,' which is included on the Elite 21 Series software CD-ROM. To locate this file, insert the CD into the computer, double-click "My Computer" and double-click the CD icon to open the disk. On the GCC disk, open the folder that corresponds to the language being used (English, French, German, Italian or Spanish), then open the folder that corresponds with your version of Windows (Win9x/Me, Win2000, WinNT). The 'gce21_1.ppd' file is located within this folder.

Consult your application's documentation for information on where to place this file. Below is a list of some common applications that require separate PPD installation and the folders where the PPD files reside:

  • Adobe PageMaker 6.5 Plus:
    • On the C: drive, under Program Files, Adobe, USEnglsh, PPD4

  • Adobe PageMaker 6.5:
    • On the C: drive, under PM65, RSRC, USEnglsh, PPD4

  • Aldus FreeHand 4.0 or PageMaker 5.0:
    • On the C: drive, under Aldus, USEnglsh, PPD4

  • Aldus FreeHand 5.0:
    • On the C: drive, under FH5, USEnglsh, PPD

(Please note that the "USEnglsh" folder may have a different name for International versions of these applications).
