BEDFORD, Mass., September 23, 2002 -

GCC Printers proudly announces its commitment to Apple's new operating system 10.2, more commonly known by its code name "Jaguar". GCC's entire printer line is already compatible with Apple's new system over Ethernet. "Apple has also just released OS 10.2.1 which supports printing to GCC's Elite 21 laser printer over USB", says GCC Senior Software Engineer, Brian Harriss. "This now makes GCC's Elite 21 Series, along with its Elite XL 20 Series, fully compatible with OS X."

GCC President and CEO, Kevin Curran, believes that the new operating system will greatly enhance overall printing capabilities. With OS X 10.2, Apple has adopted Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) which allows printer companies to build drivers more efficiently than with previous versions of OS X. Additionally, the new printing architecture should result in a much faster printing response. In fact, Macworld magazine reported results of printer testing on the new operating system in the October issue. In limited testing, they found significant speed boosts when using networked PostScript printers and even cited GCC specifically as having speed gains, noting that pages from "a GCC laser printer printed almost instantaneously, something that didn't happen with OS X 10.1."*

Says Curran, "GCC Printers remains heavily committed to the Macintosh market. We believe Apple's feature-packed 10.2 will have a positive, long-term effect for the Mac platform and GCC products need to support that." GCC is also working with Apple to equip its printers with Rendezvous, Apple's innovative networking technology designed to automatically discover and connect devices over any TCP/IP network. Rendezvous, included in version 10.2, will allow users to connect to a printer or any other electronic device on their network without any configuration at all.

In addition to updating its existing products to ensure Jaguar compatibility, GCC will continue to focus new product development on the creation of cross-platform printers that work in both Macintosh® and Windows® environments.
